Six video clipping tools can be driven from Claude or ChatGPT through MCP: OpusClip, Klap, Katto, reap, Cut.Pro and ClipSpeed. All six turn a long video into captioned vertical shorts when you ask. They differ in how you sign in, whether they can clip a stream while it is still live, where they can post, and what else sits on the same connector.
We wrote this page because we make one of the six. Every competitor fact below was read on that company's own MCP page on October 26, 2026, and each one is linked so you can check it.
Short answer
| Hosted endpoint | Sign-in | Clips a stream while live | Publishing from the chat | Stands out for | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ClipSpeed | api.clipspeed.ai/mcp (clipping and AI video), /mcp/clips (clipping only) | OAuth, or a csai_live_ key for CLIs | Yes: Twitch, Kick and YouTube Live, up to 180 min a session | YouTube, private by default | Live clipping, AI video and images on the same connector |
| OpusClip | mcp.opus.pro/mcp | OAuth | Not described | Schedules to connected social accounts | Virality scoring, editing scripts, HD, 4K and Premiere XML export |
| Klap | api.klap.app/mcp/agents | OAuth | Not described | YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook | Local files up to 10 GB, Twitch and Kick recordings |
| Katto | mcp.katto.tech/mcp | OAuth 2.1, or an API key with the npx package | Not described | Yes | 29 tools, dubbing in 19 languages, MCP on the free plan |
| reap | mcp.reap.video/mcp | API key (OAuth also listed) | Not described | TikTok, Reels, Shorts, LinkedIn, Facebook, X | Captions in 100+ languages, dubbing in 80+ |
| Cut.Pro | Hosted OAuth endpoint for ChatGPT and Claude.ai | OAuth, or an API key with @cutpro/mcp on the Pro plan | Not described | TikTok, Instagram, YouTube | Analyse, clip, render and publish as separate agent steps |
"Not described" means the company's MCP page does not say it clips a stream that is still broadcasting; several of them do clip stream recordings after the stream ends. Cut.Pro's details come from its listings in public MCP directories, because its own MCP page needs a signed-in account.
ClipSpeed is the one built for streams that are still on air (how live clipping works). Its clip_livestream tool takes a twitch.tv/<channel>, kick.com/<channel> or YouTube live link and starts watching. You can ask Claude for the clips so far at any point with check_livestream, which returns each clip with a title, a viral score, a preview and whether its captions are done. Sessions stop after 60 minutes by default to protect your monthly live time; extend_livestream takes one to 180 minutes, and stop_livestream ends it and keeps every clip.
The other five handle a stream after it ends: paste the VOD or recording link and they clip it like any long video. Klap and Katto name Twitch and Kick links as sources. If you only clip recordings, that works fine and any of them is a reasonable choice. See how to clip YouTube live streams for the workflow either way.
Ten clipping tools: find trending videos in a niche (discover_trending), clip a video (submit_to_clipspeed), collect the finished clips (check_clips), the four live-stream tools, a post-ready pack of titles and captions (creator_pack), six caption styles (list_templates) and publish_to_youtube, which uploads as private unless you say otherwise. The main endpoint also generates AI video and images, AI influencers and Morphaze character swaps, and every generation shows its credit cost before it runs. The clipping-only /mcp/clips endpoint leaves generation out. Setup guides: claude.ai, Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor.
The largest editing surface: its MCP page lists 25 to 27 tools covering clipping, virality scoring, captions, reframing with subject tracking, transcripts, editing scripts, filler-word cuts, exports in HD, 4K or Adobe Premiere XML, and scheduling. It works in Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT and VS Code with OAuth and a free trial.
Klap's MCP has 18 tools for ranked shorts, clips cut from a moment you describe or exact timestamps, captions and reframing without cutting, and scheduling to five platforms. It takes YouTube, Twitch, Kick and Vimeo links, Google Drive and Dropbox files, and local uploads up to 10 GB. Connecting is free; actions use your Klap plan.
Katto's hosted server exposes 29 tools, including re-rendering a finished clip with a new layout or caption style and dubbing it into 19 languages. It also ships a local npx package and a CLI, and the MCP server is available on every plan, including the free plan's 2 videos a month.
reap has 30 tools grouped into create, track, edit, publish, reference and billing, with captions in more than 100 languages, dubbing in more than 80 and publishing to six platforms. Its free plan includes 1 hour of processing.
Cut.Pro's server exposes its API as tools for analysing a video, clipping the best moments, rendering the MP4 and publishing it. The local package needs a Pro plan and an API key; a hosted OAuth endpoint covers ChatGPT and Claude.ai.
For Claude Code, register the URL with a key instead:
claude mcp add --transport http clipspeed https://api.clipspeed.ai/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer $CLIPSPEED_API_KEY"New to the protocol? What is MCP explains it in five minutes, and MCP for video editing walks through a full clipping loop.
Clip your next stream from Claude
Add https://api.clipspeed.ai/mcp as a connector and ask it to clip your channel while you are live. $1 starts a 3-day trial with 30 minutes of watermark-free clipping.
Endpoints, sign-in, tool counts, sources, languages, publishing targets and free-plan details were read on each company's own page on October 26, 2026: opus.pro/mcp, klap.app/mcp, katto.tech/mcp and reap.video/mcp. Cut.Pro details are from its public MCP directory listings. ClipSpeed details are from our own server's tool list. We compare only what each page states, ran no paid jobs on the other services, and leave paid prices out because they change often; check each pricing page before you buy. Spot something out of date? Tell us at support@clipspeed.ai and we will correct it.
As of October 26, 2026, OpusClip, Klap, Katto, reap, Cut.Pro and ClipSpeed all publish an MCP server that clips long videos into captioned vertical shorts from Claude, ChatGPT and other MCP clients. Most use a hosted endpoint with OAuth sign-in, so there is nothing to install.
ClipSpeed can: its clip_livestream tool watches a Twitch, Kick or YouTube live stream while it broadcasts and returns captioned clips as they are made, for sessions of up to 180 minutes. The MCP pages of OpusClip, Klap, Katto and reap describe clipping videos and stream recordings, not streams that are still on air.
Not for the hosted connectors. OpusClip, Klap, Katto and ClipSpeed let you sign in with OAuth when you add the server URL in Claude or ChatGPT. API keys are for terminal and editor clients such as Claude Code, Cursor or scripts.
Pick by the job. ClipSpeed if you stream or also want AI video generation in the same chat; OpusClip for virality scoring and exports to Premiere; Klap or reap for scheduling to many social platforms from chat; Katto or reap for dubbing clips into other languages.
Katto says its MCP server works on every plan including Free (2 videos a month), and reap includes 1 hour of processing on its free plan. OpusClip and Klap offer free trials. ClipSpeed has no free plan; a $1 3-day trial includes 30 minutes of watermark-free clipping.
