How clip length is decided

Why clips end where they do, and why they are not all the same length.

Clips end on a finished sentence. The engine cuts along the boundaries of complete thoughts rather than at a fixed duration, which is why a batch comes back at varied lengths rather than all at 45 seconds.

This is deliberate. A clip that ends mid-sentence reads as broken no matter how good the moment was, and there is no length target worth that trade.

If a single thought runs longer than the maximum clip length, there is no legal place to end it cleanly. Those cases fail open rather than cutting mid-word.

Common questions

Can I set a fixed clip length?

Clips follow the sentence, so lengths vary. That is the design, not a limitation.

Why is one clip much longer than the others?

Because the thought it captures ran longer.
