Why live clipping is a harder problem than VOD
The technical reason most tools make you wait for the recording, explained plainly.
A tool working on a finished recording can read the entire file before deciding anything. It knows how the argument ended before it picks where the clip starts. That is an enormous advantage and it is why VOD clipping is the norm.
Live has none of that. At the moment you must decide whether something is worth keeping, the only thing that exists is the past. There is no lookahead. A moment that becomes important thirty seconds later has to have been captured thirty seconds ago, or it is gone.
That constraint is the whole engineering problem, and it is why a live clip and a VOD clip are not the same product with a different input.
Common questions
Are live clips lower quality than VOD clips?
They are cut under a harder constraint. The rendering, captions and reframing are identical.
Should I use live or wait for the VOD?
Use live when speed matters — reactions and moments age fast. Use the VOD when you want the most thorough pass.
